Chocolate Maca Truffles

The last few weeks have been really busy at work, it has been the last push to get an exhibition open which we have been working on for the past year. There were a lot of early mornings and general rushing around so it took a lot of will power not to peg it over to the local newsagents to pick up a chocolate bar for an instant energy hit. These Maca Truffles totally saved me, they are rich and strong so you only need one to get your chocolate fix. The raw cacao lifts your mood, the almond butter provides some good fats to keep you satiated and the Maca improves your stress resistance while also balancing your hormones. The Maca has a pleasant sweet and malty flavour which really compliments the cacao. I kept them in the fridge at work and munched my way through the whole lot through the course of a week. If you need a little pick-me-up these are the perfect thing!

1/2 cup almond butter
4 tablespoons raw Maca powder
2 tablespoons raw cacao powder
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 teaspoon ground sea salt

Place all of the ingredients (except for the water) in a bowl and work together with a fork until well combined. You can use a food processor is your prefer. Next add the water little by little until the mix comes together into a dough.

Use the palms of your hands to roll into bite size balls and place in the fridge to chill.

Makes 10 - 15 truffles. Keep refrigerated and consume within a week.

Little Note:

If you can't get hold of Maca you could just turn these into plain chocolate truffles by substituting the Maca powder with ground almonds or coconut flour.

If you want to make them sweeter you could combine all of the ingredients in a food processor along with a couple of medjool dates.

If you have a nut allergy replace the almond butter with sunflower seed butter.

A pinch of chilli powder or cayenne pepper would add an extra kick
